This page lists (alphabetically) some of the organisations that I believe make the world a better place for everyone. I support them to the extent that I can, and I encourage anyone else who can to do so too.
-
American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
The ACLU is a non-partisan organisation that has fought to protect the basic human rights and civil liberties of people in the United States for over 100 years. Their impact cannot be understated.
-
BikePGH
BikePGH is a non-profit organisation that provides resources for cyclists and advocates for better cycling infrastructure in Pittsburgh. They made this really useful map, too!
-
Snopes
Just as information spreads, so does misinformation, and sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference. Snopes is a resource for discerning fact from rumour (or outright lie), citing its sources and summarising its findings in an accessible way.

Wheek Care Guinea Pig Rescue
As its name suggests, Wheek Care is a guinea pig rescue based in New Kensington, near Pittsburgh. They take in guinea pigs in need of a home, take great care of them and, when they're ready, put them up for adoption—and they vet potential adopters to make sure they'll all go to a good home.

Wikimedia Foundation
The Wikimedia Foundation is a non-profit organisation that operates, amongst other things, Wikipedia. It plays a massive role in widening the accessibility of knowledge, and is an excellent resource for learning (but it's always best to check what you learn against a verified source). All of its revenue comes from donations and grants—in particular, it does not use advertisements and does not sell user data.
